EASTSIDE BAPTIST CHURCH began the second Sunday in June, 1948. In
a one-room frame building, the Reverend Andrew L. Williams, founder and pastor, began this work of faith with eight charter
members, and the church grew slowly until the early 1950's, and began its experience of remarkable spiritual and numerical
growth.
THE LORD MANIFESTED Himself through the pastor and members in their faith and sacrificial giving,
and land was purchased south of the old building and on the first Sunday in september 1956, Eastside marched into its new
edifice and dedicated it to the glory and honor of God.
REVEREND WILLIAMS WAS beloved pastor for 31 years until his retirement in 1979. God called him
home on December 19, 1982.
THE FIRST SUNDAY in September 1979, the Reverend Benjamin F. Brown was called as pastor and served
until December 15, 1990.
ON FEBRUARY 16, 1992, the Reverend Ray Sterling Ware was called as the Shepherd and preached his first
sermon. As a board member-at-large of the National Baptist Convention, U.S.A., Inc., Indiana State Convention, director
general for the Indiana State Congress, and instructor for the Union District Lay Ministers, he still can meet the challenges
and commitments of Eastside. Under his leadership he has established Eastside's extensive evangelistic appeal and outreach
ministries, i.e., Summer Day Camp Program, and a satellite location for the Mozel Sanders Thanksgiving Dinner, etc.
AS "NEHEMIAH BUILDERS: DOING A GREAT WORK," Eastside has built up its transportation ministry
to have two vans and a mini-bus to pick up its membership from all over Marion county, as well as those who want to share
the gospel with the Eastside Baptist Church Family.
EASTSIDE, IN ITS history, has produced many ministers, ordained many deacons and saved many souls
and continues to follow the great commision of building God's Kingdom into the 21st century with the vision of a new edifice.
